About HKKBC
Background
  • Witnessing the consistent improvement of the business environment between Hong Kong and Korea in recent years, such as the rising popularity of Korean brands and the Korean Wave in Hong Kong, the creation of a standing business promotion body – Hong Kong-Korea Business Council (“HKKBC”), will further enhance trade and investment ties between Hong Kong and Korea.

  • Envisaging HKKBC to play a unique role in providing a platform for networking and information exchange between the business communities in Hong Kong and Korea, HKKBC will bring about mutually beneficial changes to the commercial cooperation between the two places in the near future.

  • Initiated by the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Hong Kong with the staunch support from the Korean Government, HKKBC is set up by the Hong Kong business community to facilitate closer economic and business cooperation between Hong Kong and Korea. The inauguration ceremony of HKKBC took place on the 20th of January, 2014. Dr. Jonathan CHOI, Chairman of Sunwah Group, is the Founding Chairman. Mr. KIM Byum Soo, Chairman of the Korean Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, is the Director of HKKBC.
Objectives of the Business Council
  • To foster common interests of the Hong Kong and Korean business communities and provide them with opportunities to develop networks, relationships as well as partnerships together.

  • To provide a platform to exchange views, ideas and information, as well as the identification of new opportunities for trade and investment.

  • To canvass members’ views and to present them to government policymakers and other appropriate parties.

  • To organize promotional activities and public information programmes to advocate better understanding of business opportunities between Hong Kong and Korea in the private sector on both sides as well as the general public.

  • To cooperate with relevant governmental bodies, chambers of commerce and other parties to exchange and disseminate information in order to pursue other common goals.
